UIUC Club Tennis
Frequently Asked Questions
What level of tennis experience do I need to join?
Our competitive teams generally consist of players with High School Varsity-level experience, with UTRs ranging from 7-11 for Men and 5-9 for Women. Regardless, we encourage anyone with tennis experience to consider trying out!
How big of a time commitment is club tennis?
While attendance at practices isn't mandatory for club tennis, we recommend participation to make the most of your dues. Additionally, eligibility for tournaments is influenced by your level of activity within the club.
Where are the tryouts/practices located?
Tryouts take place at Atkins Tennis Center, conveniently situated near the PAR/FAR residence hall area. While there isn't a direct bus route to the center, you can catch the 22S bus, which will drop you off at PAR/FAR. From there, it's just a short, 5-minute walk to the Atkins Tennis Center.
How do I sign up for tryouts?
At the start of the school year, usually in August, a temporary Google Form link will be made available for tryout registration. This link will remain active until shortly before the first day of tryouts. The day before tryouts, you will receive an email containing all the essential details you need to know. In the rare instance that you don't receive this email, reach out to the club email clubtennis@gmail.com
How often does the club participate in tournaments or matches?
Every semester, our club participates in around four tournaments hosted by neighboring universities.
How much does it cost to be a member?
Following competitive tryouts, you'll be placed onto one of three teams: A-Team, B-Team, or Open Courts. For A-Team, the dues are $200, and for B-Team, they are $150. Membership in Open Courts does not require any dues.
Can I participate in club tennis if I’m not a full time student (grad student, part-time student)?
We welcome both graduate students and part-time students to join our club tennis teams.
Are there any social events hosted by the club?
Yes, we organize one social event per month, featuring a variety of fun activities such as BBQs, barn dances, potlucks, and bar crawls!
